Treatment Philosophy
I believe that the journey towards recovery is a collaborative process between the client and psychotherapist. Building a therapeutic alliance is essential in assisting clients to find a sense of empowerment, motivation, and ultimately effect change in their lives. Through this process, I believe that clients can achieve their goals, improve the quality of their lives, and recover from substance use and mental illness. As a psychotherapist, I utilize a non-judgmental and empathetic, yet directive approach. I appreciate using lightheartedness and an easygoing manner as a reminder that we are all human beings in this together. Addiction is a disease, and I strongly believe that it should be treated as such. In my therapeutic approach, I use evidence informed practices that focus on the development of concrete tools and copings skills, which people can incorporate into their everyday lives. I most often draw upon elements of dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy and the strengths based perspective. As a clinician, I have always felt honored to assist people on their journey to a better life.

Special Interests
I am interested in working with people who are struggling with any and all issues of addiction, substances or otherwise. In addition, I am particularly interested in working with those who have experienced trauma and/or are struggling with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I also enjoy working with those struggling with personality disorders, mood and anxiety disorders.

Professional Journey
My interest in mental illness, substance abuse, and life struggles began in childhood. Having grown up in a dysfunctional family, I began to witness the struggles that people experience in various aspects of their lives. As I grew older, I found myself not only studying mental illness, but combating it as well. Through formal education and my own recovery, my passion to assist people struggling with mental health grew stronger. I believe that having sat in the position of the client has provided me with valuable insight, understanding, and empathy for those going through their own struggles and journey toward recovery. I fully believe that with assistance, skills, and hard work every individual can reach his or her full potential.

“When not helping others in their recovery, I enjoy… being physically active in as many ways as possible; skiing, hiking, swimming, surfing, and going for long walks with my dogs. I also enjoy cruising around on my motorcycle, camping, and traveling to any new place I’ve yet to visit.
